Swimming Pool Coming Soon to Camp Iroquoina in the Lord’s Will

In the Lord’s will, there will be a swimming pool in the near future at Camp Iroquoina!

If you haven’t followed along since the beginning, we recommend you take a look at how this journey began so you can rejoice along with us for the Lord’s faithfulness through his saints:

In the last update, we had mentioned that the total project would be north of $212,000 and we had $121,981.00 set aside for this project ($71,667.08 collected through faithful saints and their assemblies via the swimming pool fund, $50,000 set-aside from our major project fund, and $313.92 from interest while investing these funds in U.S. treasuries and money market funds). That total amount has since officially increased to $142,981.03 ($91,667.08 collected, $50,000 set-aside, and $1,313.95 from interest).

Also noted last time were the next steps for the board of trustees, which included obtaining more competing quotes, scheduling a Facilities Committee meeting to discuss next steps, and working with Stewards Foundation on obtaining a loan. All three items have been worked on. A sufficient number of quotes were obtained, the Facilities Committee met to review next steps, and more progress had been made internally on gathering the documentation needed to move forward on the loan with Stewards Foundation.

With all the above being said, the board of trustees officially decided to approve the construction of a swimming pool at Camp Iroquoina.

Such a move involves stepping out in faith, as the project is not yet completely financed. Yet this is a step the board of trustees has approached through steadfast prayer, unity, and thoughtful planning. As a camp, we’ve always sought to be faithful stewards—sometimes that has meant waiting, even when good ideas were in front of us. However, in this season, the board has sensed a clear leading to move forward in a bold way. This is an addition that many have long envisioned for enjoyment of the campers, especially given the unpredictability of the swimming pond. In making this decision, the board also seeks to honor the outpouring of support already received from so many believers and their assemblies by moving forward with clear, purposeful action rather than hesitation.

So when exactly can we expect a swimming pool at Camp Iroquoina? A contract was signed with Blue Haven Pools & Spas on April 24 to get things started. The owner of Blue Haven has started the engineering plans for the permit submission. Due to the unpredictable timeline of the permit approval process, we don’t have a concrete completion date, though there is still a little hope that it could be completed before the end of the summer. Please be in prayer for swift responses from those reviewing the permits.

We also appreciate prayers for the excavation process which will follow the permit approvals. Our hope is that there are no large rocks or boulders that would derail the project.

Likewise, we appreciate prayers for the remaining of the project’s financing. We are expecting a $25,000 grant from an assembly foundation in the coming weeks and still need to be approved for a loan with Stewards Foundation to bridge the gap. Even from there, our desire is to pay off the loan as soon as possible. Therefore, our intention is to keep our swimming pool fund open until the project is paid for entirely.

Our plan remains to keep you updated on this project, and we thank all of you who have contributed towards making this idea a reality at camp. As the board of trustees work on the next steps, we appreciate any additional prayers and support given to camp.
